Collection I

Beneath

Inspiration

Beneath is a collection about one of the many issues that has sadly been a part of society for centuries; Racism. I have always felt strongly about this issue, so I was grateful to be able to make a collection inspired by this topic. I originally came up with this concept when I was painting different shades of beige, tan, and brown on some fabric. When I looked at them all together, I realized they resembled foundation swatches. I want Beneath to symbolize that it’s not about the color of your skin-because all shades are beautiful-it’s about what’s underneath. Society has been blinded by the pigmentations of people’s skin. We’ve forgotten that what’s most important is for people to uplift and love each other, regardless of what they look like. This collection is my statement to society saying that we need to change and that we can do better.
